Installing Nikon ViewNX 2

If you want to use the free Nikon software, Nikon ViewNX 2, to download, view, and organize your photos, first check your computer system specifications. In order to run the program successfully, Nikon suggests that you use one of the following computer operating systems:

Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Vista with Service Pack 2, or XP with Service Pack 3 (Home or Professional edition). The program may run as a 32-bit application in 64-bit installations of Windows 7 and Windows Vista. It’s not compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows XP.

Mac OS X 10.5.8, 10.6.7, or 10.7.2

If you use another OS (operating system, for the nongeeks in the crowd), check the support pages on the Nikon website (www.nikon.com) for the latest news about any updates to system compatibility.

Also note that this book features Nikon ViewNX 2 version 2.3.2. If you own an earlier version of the program, visit the Nikon website to install the updates. (To find out what version you have installed, open the program. Then, in Windows, choose Help⇒About. On a Mac, choose the About command from the ViewNX 2 menu.) You also may be able to use the built-in software updater, depending on the age of your software. Open the program and choose Help⇒Check for Updates to give it a go. The updater offers a link to the software download page if it finds a more current version of the program.
